Channel downtown sophistication with the SoHo Dining Room. Inspired by Manhattan's most stylish neighborhood, the look layers industrial elements (exposed metal, raw materials) with refined details (velvet, marble, brass) for a dining room that reads cosmopolitan, edgy, and unmistakably current.
A dining table with a metal or sculptural base anchors the room, paired with velvet chairs in jewel tones or rich neutrals. A modern industrial-inspired chandelier or sculptural pendant overhead extends the SoHo aesthetic. Mixed materials throughout (raw wood with polished metal, exposed concrete with marble, leather with velvet) create the layered downtown look. The result reads as if pulled from a converted loft.
Frequently Asked Questions
What defines SoHo style?▼
The aesthetic of converted industrial lofts in Manhattan's SoHo neighborhood: exposed structural elements (brick, beams, ductwork), large open spaces, mixed materials (industrial paired with refined), and a sophisticated palette. The look reads both edgy and polished, urban and considered.
Do I need exposed brick or beams to get the look?▼
No. The aesthetic translates to homes without literal industrial architecture through material choices: raw wood with polished metal, exposed metal hardware, sculptural metal lighting, and a palette that reads urban (deep tones with metallic accents). The downtown feel comes from design choices, not from the building.
What materials anchor a SoHo dining room?▼
Metal (especially blackened or aged brass), wood (warm oak or walnut, sometimes with visible grain), marble or stone tops, leather upholstery, and velvet for refined contrast. The mix of industrial and refined materials creates the layered downtown feel.
How do I balance industrial with comfort?▼
Industrial elements can read cold or hard if not balanced. Pair industrial materials (metal, exposed wood, raw stone) with comfortable upholstered chairs in velvet or leather, soft layered lighting, and a few luxe details (a crystal accent, a sculptural ceramic piece, refined table linens). The contrast warms the room.
What lighting creates the downtown loft feel?▼
Industrial-inspired pendants in blackened metal or aged brass work well, especially with exposed Edison bulbs. A sculptural metal chandelier or modern interpretations of factory lighting (matte black metal, brass details) also fit. The lighting should add to the urban edge without being overly themed or literal.
