About the Artist
Young’s struggle to become an artist is based in his restricted childhood upbringing. As a child of a Military lieutenant, Young moved from place to place, being uprooted just as he was beginning to settle in. His father, being a man of form and order, required Young to follow a strict regiment of schooling, studying, and sports. His artistic passions were stifled by his father, who considered art a leisurely activity his son had no need to pursue. Young would escape from his father’s rules at school, where he constantly doodled and refined his craft on the margins of his pages. He hid these from his father, and this repression led Young to explode with energy once he went to college. Against his father’s wishes, he enrolled in art school, and began his professional training. Young’s talents gained the acclaim of his professors and fellow students, and he began selling his work even before he finished his training. Due to his professional success, Young was able to bypass completing his degree and began his professional career. His success was acknowledged by his father, who reformed his relationship towards his son to be one of loving support for his craft. Young considers his work a reflection of his old torments, coupled with the joys of freedom of expression. He uses the canvas as a place to express the inner-workings of his soul, a thing to be shared and enjoyed by his admirers. |
